Pain Management

Pain management services following an auto accident and work injury is pivotal in restoring individuals' quality of life. Through comprehensive medical evaluations, healthcare professionals can accurately diagnose underlying injuries, ensuring timely and tailored treatments. Trigger point injections specifically target localized pain, offering swift relief by easing muscle tension and reducing inflammation. These services not only alleviate immediate discomfort but also prevent chronic pain conditions, supporting patients' recovery and enhancing their physical and emotional well-being post-accident.

Chiropractic

Chiropractic care plays a vital role in the recovery process for individuals involved in an auto accident or work injury. These accidents often lead to a variety of injuries, particularly to the neck and spine, due to the abrupt and forceful impact. Whiplash, a common injury in auto accidents, occurs when the neck is suddenly jolted, causing strain or damage to the muscles, ligaments, and vertebrae.

Chiropractors specialize in treating musculoskeletal injuries, focusing on the alignment of the spine and promoting the body's natural ability to heal. They use non-invasive techniques such as spinal adjustments, manual manipulation, and other therapies to alleviate pain, restore mobility, and promote healing. By realigning the spine and addressing misalignments or subluxations, chiropractic care can help reduce inflammation, alleviate pain, and improve the overall function of the affected areas.

Early intervention with chiropractic care after an auto accident or work injury can significantly contribute to a speedier recovery, reducing the likelihood of chronic pain and facilitating a return to normal daily activities. It's essential for those involved in auto accidents to seek prompt evaluation and treatment from a qualified chiropractor to address potential injuries and support their journey to recovery.

Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression

Spinal disc injuries after an auto accident or work injury are very common. Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression treatment works by gently stretching the spine in a specific manner, creating a negative pressure within the discs. This negative pressure helps retract bulging or herniated discs, allowing nutrients, oxygen, and fluids to flow back into the affected area. By promoting this influx of essential elements, the treatment encourages the discs' natural healing process. Additionally, the decompression decreases the pressure on nerves, reducing pain and promoting the body's ability to heal. Over time, this process facilitates the repair of the damaged discs, alleviating symptoms and restoring functionality to the spine, especially beneficial for those recovering from auto accident or work-related injuries.

Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave Therapy - Shockwave therapy accelerates recovery and initiates healing in acute injuries and chronic conditions by leveraging high-energy acoustic waves to stimulate the body's natural repair mechanisms. These waves, when directed at the affected area, create microtrauma, prompting the release of growth factors, increasing blood flow, and triggering the production of collagen, a crucial element in tissue repair. This process jumpstarts the body's healing response, reducing inflammation, breaking down scar tissue, and promoting cell regeneration. For acute injuries like tendonitis or chronic conditions like plantar fasciitis, this therapy fosters tissue regeneration, pain reduction, and restoration of functionality, ultimately expediting the healing process and improving overall recovery outcomes.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture can be a valuable component in aiding recovery from auto accidents by addressing both physical and psychological aspects of trauma. Through the insertion of thin needles into specific points on the body, acupuncture stimulates the release of endorphins, natural pain-relieving chemicals, which can alleviate discomfort and manage pain resulting from injuries sustained in a car accident. It also helps reduce inflammation, improve blood circulation, and relax muscles, aiding the body's natural healing process. Moreover, acupuncture can assist in reducing stress, anxiety, and post-traumatic symptoms often experienced after such incidents, promoting a more comprehensive recovery by supporting both the body and mind in their healing journey.

Class 4 Laser

Class 4 Laser therapy is a powerful, non-invasive treatment that accelerates healing for most injuries by penetrating deep into injured tissue to reduce pain, inflammation, and swelling while stimulating cellular repair. It increases blood flow and ATP production at the cellular level, helping strained muscles, torn ligaments, joint injuries, and nerve irritation heal faster and more completely. Patients often experience quicker pain relief, improved mobility, and shorter recovery timelines—supporting a faster, safer return to work and daily activities without injections, surgery, or downtime.

Palo Alto

Dr. Andrew Vargas uses the same principles he learned at UCSF in caring for patients
with chronic painful conditions. His aim is to define and diagnose the underlying painful
problem and apply interventional techniques to improve pain, function, and quality of life
so his patients can enjoy the good health of their youth as long as possible.

Dr. Vargas specializes in targeted diagnostic injections, cortisone injections, platelet rich
plasma injections, radiofrequency ablations, and neuromodulation techniques.

Every patient’s experience of pain is unique, and Dr. Vargas takes care to consider
underlying medical problems to optimize treatment and outcomes. His practice takes a
limited role in systemic medication management with careful patient selection and a
tailored, multimodal approach aimed at eliminating use of opioid pain medications.
Dr. Vargas’s role is to empower patients to engage in active treatments aimed at
maintaining strength, flexibility, and improving the mind-body connection.

Managing painful diagnoses is a team effort with the primary goal of rehabilitation. His partners in rehabilitation management include chiropractors, acupuncturists, physical therapists, and psychologists trained to engage our body and mind’s natural pathways for limiting the effects of pain.

Dr. Paul Porter is a doctor of chiropractic with over a decade of experience specializing in comprehensive musculoskeletal care. He focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of conditions affecting the spine, peripheral nerves, joints, and soft tissues—providing patients with comprehensive, evidence-informed care focused on restoring function, improving performance, and supporting long-term musculoskeletal health.

Dr. Porter’s commitment to multidisciplinary care began in 2011 when he joined the medical treatment team at the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii. Providing care for elite world-class athletes shaped his clinical philosophy: precise diagnosis, performance-driven rehabilitation, and restoring optimal movement without unnecessary intervention. It was during this time that he developed a lasting passion for both physical medicine and men’s health.

He earned his doctorate from Palmer College of Chiropractic West in San Jose, California in 2014, after completing a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a focus in Cognitive Neuroscience from Virginia Tech. His background in neuroscience informs his understanding of pain, motor control, and the complex relationship between the nervous system and human movement.

Dr. Porter has advanced training in musculoskeletal diagnostic ultrasound from the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, where he refined his skills in real-time evaluation of soft tissue structures, peripheral nerves, joint pathology, and dynamic biomechanics. He integrates ultrasound into clinical practice to enhance diagnostic accuracy and guide precision-based treatment planning.

At the core of his practice is non-surgical musculo-skeletal care. Dr. Porter emphasizes thorough biomechanical assessment and evidence-informed conservative care as the foundation of treatment. He utilizes advanced regenerative technologies, including extracorporeal shockwave therapy and Class IV laser therapy, to stimulate tissue repair, reduce inflammation, improve circulation, and accelerate recovery of tendons, ligaments, cartilage, and peripheral nerves. These noninvasive therapies allow patients to address pain and degeneration at the source while minimizing downtime and avoiding unnecessary surgery.

Dr. Porter is known for delivering clear answers in complex cases and building structured treatment plans that prioritize restoration over reaction. By combining advanced imaging, biomechanical precision, regenerative technologies, and coordinated interventional care, he provides patients with a comprehensive, surgery-sparing pathway to recovery.

His philosophy is simple: diagnose accurately, treat strategically, restore function completely. Whether caring for elite athletes, active professionals, or individuals seeking long-term solutions to chronic pain, Dr. Porter’s focus remains the same—optimize movement, preserve tissue integrity, and deliver measurable outcomes that allow patients to return to the activities that define their lives.
